Description

This savory Sausage and Egg Casserole is a comforting dish that feeds a crowd and is perfect for busy mornings. Flexible and easy to make, it’s ideal for potlucks and weekend breakfasts.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sausage
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheese
  • 1 cup bread (optional)
  • 1 cup vegetables (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs, such as parsley (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and ensure the rack is in the middle.
  2. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned, breaking it into small pieces.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. In a greased casserole dish, layer the cooked sausage, optional bread or vegetables, and shredded cheese.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the layers, tapping the dish to settle bubbles.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the eggs are set.
  7. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow clean slices.

Notes

For a creamier version, use half-and-half instead of milk. Add more vegetables for a lighter dish. Store in the fridge for up to four days or freeze individual slices.
