Description

A delightful and indulgent French toast that brings the essence of brunch to your table with a rich custardy texture and a crispy caramelized topping.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • Fresh berries (for serving, optional)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in a baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are all soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake the bread for 40-45 minutes, or until it’s golden and set.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top.
  7. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy layer.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes, then serve with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Using stale bread ensures better absorption of the custard. Feel free to get creative with toppings or variations.
