Description

A comforting and vibrant cranberry apple jam that celebrates the changing seasons and brings families together through the joy of cooking.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apples (peeled, cored, and diced, about 2 lbs or just under 1 kg)
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries (200 grams)
  • 3 cups sugar (600 grams)
  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 to 3 Tbsp)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and dice the apples into small pieces, about 1/4 inch cubes.
  2. Toss the diced apples in lemon juice first, then add the sugar. Stir gently to coat evenly.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it macerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Place the apple mixture and cranberries into a jam pot.
  5. Set the stove to medium-high heat and cook the mixture until it thickens, about 6 to 10 minutes.
  6. Stop cooking when the desired thickness is reached and cranberries have popped.
  7. Ladle the warm mixture into prepared jars, leaving a 1/4 inch headspace at the top.
  8. If canning, process the jars in a water bath for 10 minutes.
  9. Cool the jars on a clean towel and check seals afterward.

Notes

For a less sweet jam, reduce the sugar by a cup. Try adding spices like cinnamon for extra flavor.
