Description
A comforting and vibrant cranberry apple jam that celebrates the changing seasons and brings families together through the joy of cooking.
Ingredients
- 4 cups apples (peeled, cored, and diced, about 2 lbs or just under 1 kg)
- 2 cups fresh cranberries (200 grams)
- 3 cups sugar (600 grams)
- Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 to 3 Tbsp)
Instructions
- Peel, core, and dice the apples into small pieces, about 1/4 inch cubes.
- Toss the diced apples in lemon juice first, then add the sugar. Stir gently to coat evenly.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it macerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Place the apple mixture and cranberries into a jam pot.
- Set the stove to medium-high heat and cook the mixture until it thickens, about 6 to 10 minutes.
- Stop cooking when the desired thickness is reached and cranberries have popped.
- Ladle the warm mixture into prepared jars, leaving a 1/4 inch headspace at the top.
- If canning, process the jars in a water bath for 10 minutes.
- Cool the jars on a clean towel and check seals afterward.
Notes
For a less sweet jam, reduce the sugar by a cup. Try adding spices like cinnamon for extra flavor.
