Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds or pecans)
  • A pinch of salt


Instructions

  1. Prepare your pan: Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, and water over medium heat until melted.
  3. Bring to a boil: Increase heat to medium-high and boil, stirring constantly, until it turns golden amber.
  4. Check the temperature: Use a candy thermometer to aim for 300°F (hard crack stage).
  5. Add vanilla: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Pour and spread: Quickly pour the mixture into the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Sprinkle chocolate: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and spread once softened.
  8. Add nuts: Press chopped nuts into the melted chocolate.
