Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds or pecans)
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare your pan: Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Combine ingredients: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, and water over medium heat until melted.
- Bring to a boil: Increase heat to medium-high and boil, stirring constantly, until it turns golden amber.
- Check the temperature: Use a candy thermometer to aim for 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Add vanilla: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour and spread: Quickly pour the mixture into the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle chocolate: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and spread once softened.
- Add nuts: Press chopped nuts into the melted chocolate.
- Let it set: Cool at room temperature for about an hour or refrigerate.
- Cut and serve: Remove from the pan and cut into squares or break into pieces.
